About Us

The Middle Tennessee Transgender Alliance (formerly Tennessee Vals or TVals) is a non-political, educational, social, and support organization founded and intended to educate and support people about transgender issues without prejudice, regardless of sexual orientation, sexual identity, or gender identity.

MTTA helps educate and support those dealing with personal issues and concerns related to gender identity, including its impact on sexual orientation. We exist primarily to support transgender adults, but family, friends, and allies are welcome and encouraged to join as well. We do not serve the needs of transgender children or teens at this time.

Based in Nashville, MTTA also serves the interests of the transgender community in Middle Tennessee from the Kentucky to Alabama border through efforts to educate the public and promote a positive public image about transgender people.

Everyone on the transgender spectrum is welcome from full-time or “when you can” transgender women and men to genderfluid, nonbinary and gender-questioning folks.

We would like to invite you to our meetings, which are held on the second Saturday of each month. Please contact our Membership Director for directions.

Our meetings are open to anyone interested in learning about all things transgender. We are a peer-to-peer support group. We share our own experiences in the hope of being able to comfort, support, and encourage others dealing with similar circumstances and struggles.

Meetings start with announcements and introductions, where attendees can share as much or as little as they are comfortable with. We often have one or two topics prepared to guide conversation, but they are flexible and flowing, and we encourage group discussions. If you have concerns or worries about your personal journey, don’t hesitate to ask. More than likely, one or more of our members has experienced something similar. We also invite guest speakers from time to time to present topics that are beneficial to our community. We normally stop for a break part way through to socialize and enjoy a potluck of snacks and finger foods. After the meeting many of our members go out and socialize together at local restaurants. Dress any way you feel comfortable—it’s OK if you’re not ready or able to present the way you’d like! Relax and have fun. It will be OK!

We are friendly people of all ages and from all walks of life who enjoy each other’s company and sharing experiences. We are not a singles group, and this is not a dating service. This is a safe, supportive environment for people to meet and socialize.

On the third Saturday of each month, we host a Monthly Night Out, which is an opportunity to socialize over dinner. The meeting locations are announced prior to the Night Out. Non-members are welcome to join us. Please contact us for the location.

MTTA is not a political organization. Those who have interests in transgender political issues may contact the Tennessee Transgender Political Action Committee (TTPC) .
